Mohamed Salah sets Premier League record with opening day goal and assist against Ipswich Town.
The Liverpool talisman helped Diogo Jota break the deadlock in the 60th minute with an assist before doubling his team’s lead with a goal five minutes later to set a new Premier League record. With the goal and an assist, the Egyptian player became the first player in the history of the competition to record nine goals in the opening match day. He is also the player with the most involvements, 14, in the first match of the season.
The Reds got off to a shaky start as their performance in the first half was far from convincing. However, they stepped up their game after half-time and scored twice in quick succession to all but confirm three points in the first match of the Arne Slot era.
