Jurgen Klopp is enjoying life away from football after jetting off to Paris to support a close friend at the Paralympics.
Klopp has headed to France in support of his friend Wojtek Czyz. Czyz plays badminton and is representing New Zealand, having previously been a German citizen. He met Klopp while he was a footballer, and the pair have been close for over 20 years, per The Sun
Czyz played football for Fortuna Koln but suffered a serious knee injury in 2001, which required amputation. As he began his rehab, he met Klopp and the pair have remained in touch ever since.
WHAT CZYZ SAID
Per The Sun, Czyz said: “I’m really happy to see him. We talk a lot about the Paralympics. He is a big fan of it – to see what people can achieve and how hard the competition is. He will enjoy being there and I look forward to giving him a good show.
WHAT NEXT?
If we know anything about Klopp, it’s that he is a vociferous supporter of those he believes in, so we can expect to see him cheering loudly in the stands. He will hope Czyz, who adopted New Zealand citizenship after being stuck in the country during COVID, returns with a medal.
