Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has confirmed he has no plans to rest Lamine Yamal despite the teenager having started every game so far this season.
Yamal has started the season in superb form for Barcelona after a busy summer where he played a key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 win. The 17-year-old has started every game for Hansi Flick’s side and has racked up five assists and four goals in all competitions to help Barcelona to the top of La Liga. Yamal also played in Spain’s Nations League fixtures against Serbia and Switzerland during the international break.
Despite the teenager’s heavy workload, Flick has confirmed he has no plans to rest Yamal when Barcelona return to La Liga action on Wednesday against Getafe. Players such as Jules Kounde and Bernardo Silva have complained recently about the hectic schedule, along with Manchester City star Rodri who has since been ruled out for the season with a serious knee injury, but Flick says Yamal does not need a break.
WHAT FLICK SAID
Flick offered up the following response when asked about Yamal’s game time during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday. He said: “We have all the data on the players, he doesn’t need to rest at the moment. We’ll look at it, but I don’t think he needs to rest tomorrow. We have to start well tomorrow and start with a great team. Lamine has been doing incredible this season. We have to continue with this performance.”
WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA
Flick will be hoping that Yamal can continue his recent form against Getafe and, perhaps more importantly, avoid injury. The German has just seen goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen ruled out with a serious knee problem and join the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo on his team’s lengthy injury list.
