The landlady has attacked a middle-aged woman.
Imabong William, a woman who lives in Enugwu-Ukwu in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, is currently pleading for assistance from Nigerians and Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State.
William, from Akwa Ibom State, had been treated at Zion Hospital, Nawfia, in Njikoka LGA, since August 17. This was following an alleged altercation with her landlady over a disagreement about an increase in rent, during which she was allegedly poured boiling water mixed with pepper.
According to reports, the event took place in Enugwu-Ukwu, and Amaka Okonkwo, the landlady, is being held by police in relation to it.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, William said that she still experiences excruciating burn agony because the hospital had stopped providing her medicine more than a month ago because of her mounting medical debt.
She claims she owes the hospital N650,000 and is unable to make the payment.
“I’ve been in the hospital for more than three months, and even though I’m healing gradually, I still feel pain,” she stated. My bill from the doctor arrived last month, and it now totals N650,000.
Because I am a trader and have nowhere to put my money to pay the bills, the hospital stopped providing me with care and medication.
After they took me to the hospital, I called the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, and they haven’t followed up with me since.
However, the caller stated that the ministry’s responsibility is to prosecute the perpetrator and that they do not cover medical expenses. She advised me to go get money on my own.
“I’m not sure what to think. My two-year-old daughter, who is staying with me in the hospital, is not safe because she can get sick here, and even feeding has been hard.
But William begged the state governor, his spouse, and other kind-hearted Nigerians to help her.
“I beg for assistance from well-wishers, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo.
Many people have suggested that I meet the governor’s wife. Some people suggested that I write, but to be honest, I’m having trouble with it.
“My life and health depend on the government doing whatever it feels it can to help,” she continued.
Journalists were informed by hospital workers, who begged to remain anonymous, that she was transferred from the private treatment area to the maternity unit and that her medicine had been discontinued in order to prevent her medical bills from mounting.
