The family was evacuated because there is a risk that the sinkhole could grow larger and swallow the family.
A Honduran family was on the verge of being ‘swallowed’ by a huge sinkhole that formed inside their home in the Las Palmas neighborhood in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras.
According to information shared by members of the Fire Department, the hole was formed after the torrential downpour that occurred on Monday afternoon in the capital.
After seeing the sinkhole forming in the yard of their home, the family called the authorities, who arrived to inspect the area. In a video shared by the Fire Department, it can be seen that the sinkhole swallowed a mango tree that was on the property.
The family was immediately evacuated to avoid further risks, as the hole could get bigger and cause a tragedy.
Several departments in Honduras are on alert due to the heavy rains and soil saturation that have occurred in the Honduran territory. These rains are the result of the convergence of wind and humidity from the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
