On Friday, November 1, a 61-year-old surfer experienced a terrifying moment in the middle of the waves, at Waiehu Beach Park in Hawaii.
The surfer could have died and yet… It was his composure that saved him from the teeth of one of the world’s largest predators.
The species of shark couldn’t be identified by the authorities. According to local media, the victim had his right leg torn off during a sudden attack. The sixty-year-old’s leg was “completely severed just below the knee”.
Despite the violence of the attack, the man showed enough composure and courage to be able to return to shore. Halfway there, he was rescued by other surfers and then transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center. In critical condition, the patient survived his injury after receiving the necessary care, reports Demotivateur.
“I would like to congratulate the patient for his strength and his ability to reach the shore (…) It’s extraordinary!” the fire chief told the Associated Press.
