The party stated that the governor’s failure to provide the report nine months after the incident raised concerns about the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The African Action Congress (AAC) Oyo State chapter has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Governor Seyi Makinde, demanding a comprehensive public report on the Bodija bomb explosion that occurred on January 21, 2024.
The explosion had destroyed numerous properties and caused widespread panic in the state capital, with the explosion’s sound heard across Ibadan, the state capital.
The ultimatum was issued in a press statement issued by Kayode Babayomi, Oyo State AAC chairman which was made available to SaharaReporters on Wednesday.
The party stated that the governor’s failure to provide the report nine months after the incident raised concerns about the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The statement reads: “The African Action Congress, Oyo State chapter, has called on Governor Makinde to give a public report of the Bodija bomb explosion and how he has helped the affected people living in the area 9 months after the blast. The explosion destroyed many properties and caused panic attacks to residents around Bodija axis of the state capital, the explosion sound was heard all over the city of Ibadan on the 21st of January 2024 .
“We are calling out Governor Makinde to give a comprehensive report of this incident. What is the cause? Who are those involved? What type of explosive devices were kept in the building?
“The governor had promised that all reports would be taken and fully investigated, 9 months later, nothing has been said about it, and nobody has been arrested for the destruction of the city nor charged with terrorism. If we were to have a serious government, it should take less than a month to figure out the exact cause and the circumstances behind the incident.
“Till today, the Oyo State government is either not sure of the real cause of the explosion or covering up for the perpetrators. Makinde is rather sending his Special.Adviser on Security to make political statements on radio and TV to defend the government’s recklessness.
“We, as the voice of the people of Oyo State, we are calling out the Makinde-led PDP administration to immediately release the report of the incident if there is any. Makinde has continued to maintain his stance that he’s never for the people, we are giving the Makinde government 7-day ultimatum to come up with a clear report of the bomb blast and how he has been helping the affected residents.
“The African Action Congress (AAC) remains the only party for the people of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.”
