On ITV Football, he said: “Whoever’s doing that ain’t got a clue if Lauren Hemp’s 28th. The way Lauren Hemp has been playing and what she’s done… it’s ridiculous for her to be 28th.
“They (the journalists) are not watching.”
Last season, Hemp scored 11 goals and bagged eight assists in 21 Women’s Super League matches for City. And for the Lionesses, she was on the scoresheet five times and turned provider on two occasions in eight games for her country. But that wasn’t enough for her to rank higher, with fellow England stars Lauren James and Lucy Bronze finishing 13th and 20th respectively. There was some success for an Englishwoman at the event, though, as former Chelsea boss and United States women’s national coach Emma Hayes won the the Women’s Coach of the Year award.
