United had high hopes for the Brazilian attacker when they signed him from Ajax for a whopping £85 million ($110m) in the summer of 2022. However, things have not gone as planned as Antony has consistently failed to perform and now finds himself out of favour with head coach Erik ten Hag.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Last week it was reported that the Red Devils are willing to listen to offers of around £40m ($52.3m, €48m) for Antony as they look to cut their losses. The Daily Mail reports that Ajax had initially discussed the possibility of bringing back the winger, however, they have now raised questions over the player’s “mindset” and are now considering ending their transfer pursuit.

In the 2024-25 campaign, Antony has appeared in just four matches so far and has clocked only 139 minutes on the pitch. He has scored just one goal, too, which came in United’s 7-0 drubbing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
