Alert in France: a flood hits the country

France is currently experiencing a meteorological episode of rare intensity. Experts are worried about the arrival of devastating floods.

On Wednesday and Thursday, rain was expected across the entire southern half of France. This was part of the remains of Hurricane Leslie. It ultimately turned out to be more intense than expected. And, in the coming hours, it is almost certain that new floods will occur, reports Futura-Sciences .

Due to the former hurricane Leslie and a depression, the atmosphere in France is loaded with humidity (in large quantities). On Thursday evening, it was calculated that the cumulative rainfall would reach:

  • 200 to 300 mm widespread in the Cévennes;
  • 80 to 120 mm in the Var and the Alpes Maritimes;
  • 60 to 80 mm from the north of Occitania to Burgundy or even towards the Basque Country.

Still according to Futura-Sciences , in the south-east, the cumulative rainfall should represent the equivalent of a month’s rain, in just two days.

This Friday, weather conditions will remain humid over a large part of French territory.
