Liverpool are moving ahead with a deal to lock in the goalkeeper who could replace Alisson by scheduling a medical for Giorgi Mamardashvili.
According to The Athletic, plans have been made for Mamardashvili to undergo a medical now that a deal worth up to €35 million (£29.6m/$39.1m), including add-ons, has been agreed with Valencia. But the intention is still for the Georgian to spend the remainder of 2024-25 with his current club.
Alisson is not being replaced right now, but Mamardashvili is tipped to move over from Spain next summer and “compete for a place”. Altough it is feasible they could co-exist for a year or two, Alisson will be nearly 33 by the start of next season and is starting to enter the final chapter of his career. For what it’s worth, however, Brazil’s No.1 has suggested he has no plans to step aside just yet.
It is likely to spell the end of Caoimhin Kelleher’s time at Anfield, effectively demonstrating to the Irishman that he won’t be Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper even after Alisson. The homegrown stopper will have one year left on his contract by the end of this season and is likely to move on in pursuit of playing time.
