Protesters have demanded improvements to the roads, arguing that this seriously affects the local economy.

A group of residents of Amapala have denounced the lack of tourists during this Morazan holiday, due to the deterioration of the Pan-American highway and the route to Coyolito.

Protesters have demanded improvements to the roads, as this severely affects the local economy.

“We asked the president (Xiomara Castro) to fix the street for us, we want a solution,” said Luis Ortiz, a local resident and one of the spokesmen for the protest.

Videos showing the critical state of the road have been circulating on social media, bringing greater visibility to the situation.

They also indicate that the tourist sites in the area are empty, due to the poor infrastructure in the area.

In addition, residents said that a road improvement project that only covered 10 kilometers of the 30 promised has left the community in a vulnerable situation.

Protesters also shared photos of empty restaurants, arguing that the lack of visitors is largely due to the destination’s inaccessibility.

Luis Ortiz, who is also part of Amapala’s civil society, stressed that these protest actions have no political aims and are not being financed by any organization.

“We are here to demand our needs, and the municipality’s economy is being affected. We call on the central government to listen to our demands,” Ortiz concluded.

The community hopes that their message will be heard and that immediate steps will be taken to improve road conditions and revitalize tourism in the region.
