Ahead of President-elect Donald Trump taking office in January, the United States will deliver another $6 billion in pledged aid to Ukraine. That was confirmed by national security adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday.
On Wednesday, Joe Biden will receive his successor at the White House. The two politicians will discuss foreign files, including Ukraine and Russia, among other issues.
One of Biden’s goals remaining until the assumption of power is to “put Ukraine in as strong a position as possible on the battlefield so that it would also be as strong as possible at the negotiating table,” national security adviser Jake Sullivan explained Sunday to CBS. According to the Department of Defense, some six billion dollars in military aid is still available. Two billion dollars of that still comes from a package approved in September, which includes ammunition for anti-aircraft, communications technology and support for drone production. Biden’s successor, Donald Trump, maintains good relations with Vladimir Putin, and so that frightens the world.
Trump has repeatedly claimed during his election campaign that he can end the war “in one day,” without going into detail about how he would do so. Trump’s strategy would presumably require Ukraine to cede territory to Putin.
