The Catholic Church of Honduras, through the Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, José Vicente Nácher Tatay, rejected this Sunday the polarization in society and urged to listen to and love God and neighbor, as established by the commandments to achieve unity and salvation.

“The heart of this godless world, because it does not dare to say that it does not love out of pride, does not recognize the other as worthy of being loved and says: ‘Not that one, he is our enemy.’ We see this every day in an increasingly polarized society ,” the archbishop said in his Sunday homily at the San Miguel Arcángel Cathedral.

The religious leader recalled that the commandments to love God above all things and one’s neighbor as oneself summarize the entire law.

“God, without our love, will be sadder, but he is still God; on the other hand, if I do not love my neighbor, he will lack love and I will lack his love,” he added.

Nácher also stressed that “by loving one another we know the love of God, because a humanity that does not know God is a divided , dispersed, lost humanity, subject to the law of selfishness.”

He also pointed out that salvation is found in the unity between us and God. “No one can advance on the path of faith without loving with the love of Jesus Christ, who gives his life for his friends. Loving our neighbor means that we become neighbors by loving one another and showing that love.”

At the end of his homily, José Vicente Nácher Tatay pointed out that no one can say that he loves God if he does not love his neighbor, since both are inseparable steps and of equal value.
