An 80-year-old South Korean woman outclassing all the much younger contestants and winning the Miss Universe crown? A victory that could have caused a stir! For 80-year-old Choi Soon-hwa, the dream unfortunately did not come true.
With age restrictions lifted for the Miss Korea pageant, 80-year-old Choi Soon-hwa decided to give it a try. She made it through the pre-selection rounds and on Monday night competed with 31 compatriots for a spot representing her country at the Miss Universe international finals in Mexico in November.
She unfortunately didn’t make it to the finals, but her fighting spirit, boldness and courage are now inspiring many people around the world. ” I want to surprise the world. Make everyone wonder how an 80-year-old can be so healthy…” she said in an interview with CNN . “Being beautiful is important, but I think you also have to feel comfortable and respect others. Also, it’s important to think positively; there’s so much negativity right now.”
