Following this incident, the reaction of the president of the Puy-de-Dôme Departmental Federation of Hunters, Dominique Busson, was not long in coming. “The accident occurred during a gathering of a few hunters. A shot was fired because of an unloaded rifle. We must not make a big deal out of it either. There are basic safety instructions: when you meet someone, the rifle must be unloaded. This is a human error that we can only deplore. Whether or not there is a child present, vigilance must be constant. Parents are irresponsible for taking a 4-year-old child,” he declared.
For its part, the Clermont-Ferrand national police have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
