The sports community is in mourning following the tragic death of Isidra Torres, a prominent Mexican athlete specializing in marathons, who lost her life as a result of injuries sustained in an attack by three pitbull dogs.
The 52-year-old athlete had been fighting for her life for 28 days at the Dr. Aurelio Valdivieso Hospital in Oaxaca, Mexico.
The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office has reclassified the case as negligent homicide, after it was determined that the attack occurred while Isidra was walking through her neighborhood.
The dogs reportedly belonged to a neighbor of the athlete , who, after the attack, chose to hide the animals on his property and did not provide assistance to Isidra.

“He left my mother lying there and didn’t even help me to rescue her,” she said angrily. “No one has been arrested, and the owner of the dogs continues to walk them as if nothing had happened,” she added.

The athlete’s family has called for justice, while prosecutors have tried to obtain an arrest warrant against the dogs’ owner, but a judge has rejected the request, adding to the frustration of her loved ones.
