The investigation began following suspicions of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, during which investigators discovered a shocking amount of intimate videos recorded by Engonga.

Up to 400 videos were found on the official’s computer, involving several women, including wives and relatives of other senior officials. This revelation has created a stir in the country, leading the population to question the ethics of those occupying high positions.
News of the existence of these videos spread, and some of them were leaked on social networks such as Telegram and Twitter (now X). The dissemination of this content has sparked a wave of indignation among citizens and officials, who consider this act to be a serious lack of respect and an abuse of power.
Although county prosecutor Anatolio Nzang Nguema said the recordings were consensual, he also indicated that charges could be brought against Engonga for “crimes against public health.” The possibility that these recordings were used to spread disease among the population has added a new level of concern to the case.
In response to this scandal, Vice President Mangue announced that surveillance cameras will be installed in government offices to prevent misconduct. According to him, anyone caught engaging in inappropriate activities will be immediately fired.
Who is Baltasar Ebang Engonga?
Baltasar Ebang Engonga, 54, has had a notable career in Equatorial Guinean politics. He is a father of six children and served in various roles in government. Before becoming director of the National Financial Investigation Agency, he was Minister of Education from 1998.
Engonga comes from an influential family, being the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjoo, president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC). His career has been marked by a focus on fighting corruption, which makes the recent accusations all the more surprising.
