From rejection to praise, National Congresswoman Beatriz Valle criticized on Saturday the change in discourse of the Liberty and Refoundation Party ( Libre ) regarding the Honduran Armed Forces.
Through his account on the social network X, Valle expressed his astonishment at what he considers the “fastest” transformation in the perception of the Armed Forces in less than three years.
“I am so impressed by the fact that the Armed Forces went from being ‘coup plotters’, ‘drug trafficking facilitators’, ‘repressive’, to being ‘heroic’, ‘democratic’, ‘dignified’ and ‘patriotic’. It is the fastest transformation in the history of Honduras,” said the former Honduran ambassador to Canada.

The deputy’s reaction is related to the discourse that Libre used during the electoral campaign, when it promised that the military would return to the barracks , arguing that it was necessary to limit their participation in politics and public security matters.
However, once in power, President Xiomara Castro’s government reactivated the National Defense and Security Council, issuing resolutions that benefit the military forces, which contradicts campaign promises.
Valle stressed that, amid recent questions about the actions of the head of the Armed Forces regarding tax reforms , many of the pro-government officials who previously criticized the Armed Forces have now come to their defense.
