While Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Russia as a “trusted ally” and “always a friend” during a visit to Moscow last July, this friendly relationship is likely to deteriorate in the present day.

Only a few months later, several media outlets reported that kyiv had gained access to Indian ammunition that is being used on the front lines against Russian troops.

According to an investigation by Reuters, shells from the Indian arsenal were purchased by Italy and the Czech Republic before being sent to Ukraine.

The revelation follows the emergence of battlefield photos showing Ukrainian soldiers using Indian ammunition.

Last August, Narendra Modi had travelled to kyiv to meet Volodymyr Zelensky in a historic visit.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal called reports in some media outlets about Ukraine using Indian munitions “speculative and malicious.”
