Nottingham Forest have been deducted four points after breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, meaning they fall into the relegation zone.
Today’s ruling sees Luton rise to 17th and on course to survive the drop after they equalised late against Forest in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
The Tricky Trees admitted breaching the regulations but argued their delayed sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham was mitigation.
Forest reportedly said they turned down an offer for their former forward from Brentford prior to the June 30 deadline for filing accounts in the knowledge they would receive more money from Spurs later in the summer.
But that defence was rebuffed by the independent panel and they are now in the bottom three
