Shyne once looked at Diddy as the devil during their strained relationship following the 1999 shooting that he ultimately went to prison for.

The rapper-turned-politician is making his rounds to promote his new Hulu documentary The Honorable Shyne ahead of its premiere on November 18. Appearing on The Stephen A. Smith Show on Thursday (November 14), Shyne opened up about his previous thoughts on Diddy and denied the long-standing rumor he was paid off to take the fall.

“I’ve always maintained in every interview I did until recently when I healed and I moved on and I forgave, but for years I was saying what a creep I thought he was and how he destroyed my life and at one point, I thought he was the devil,” he said. “But because of the power of Diddy which is so loud a far as a pop culture icon, nobody listened. And so I moved on! And I pivoted my life to healing, to forgiveness and to taking accountability for what I can control.”

He continued: “And I can’t control what someone did to me decades ago. I can’t control them not wanting to pay reparations, not wanting to make right. People say, ‘Oh Diddy gave [you] millions to go to jail.’ Nothing! Probably made two what I thought were offensive contributions over the last 20-something years which led to a breakdown in the relations. But I moved on.”

Funk Flex isn’t rolling with Shyne’s version of events, however, and recently took aim at the former Bad Boy artist after seeing a preview of the documentary.

“This has been bothering me for weeks,” Flex said on his Hot97 radio show on October 26. “When somebody tries to say they’re the scapegoat, or they was used, it has been bothering me. I’m gonna keep it a buck. Shyne, I love you bro, and I know what you’ve been through. No I don’t. But you’re a liar. You’re a stone cold faced liar, Shyne.

“First of all, you remember when D Rock had to beat you up at that studio because you was feeling yourself? You lucky you signed to Bad Boy ’cause if you did not sign to Bad Boy and you signed to Def Jam or anywhere else they were gonna pound you out like the day they beat you up at that studio.”

Flex continued: “Shyne, you can’t lie with me around, bro. And I’m going to tell you something else, Shyne, if you hated Puff so much when he got the key to the city, you were in the trailer. Sucka. You’re a sucka. I can’t stand you. You got no guts. You went to jail because you took out your gun because you were scared to get punched in the face by some dudes that you knew that were your people that you jerked.

“You jerked them because you signed first. Shyne, you signed to those dudes first. I’m going to expose you, Shyne, because you’re a liar. You could fool your country on who you are. You ain’t fooling me. You had 10 record deals ’cause you sounded like the Notorious B.I.G.

He goes on: “Everybody wanted to spit in your face back then, Shyne, including me. But you sounded like Biggie and you was capitalizing off [inaudible]. Don Pooh I apologize, I know I said I wasn’t going to say something tonight. I’m sorry.

“Shyne, your records were wack too. I’m going to wait until you wack ass documentary come out and I’m going to destroy you.”

According to Complex, Flex offered additional details about the 1999 nightclub shooting that eventually led to Shyne’s conviction on assault charges and a 10-year prison sentence.

“Let me tell you something, New York, about Shyne that night in that club. He knew exactly who those guys were that he got into a situation. It was his situation, not anybody else’s. This ain’t about Puff, it’s about the Notorious B.I.G. and you sounding like him and you trying to act like you were in demand and you was somebody. You a punk, and you shot that gun off that night because you was scared.

He concluded: “If none of you veterans are gonna check this bozo, I’m gonna check him,” said Flex. “I saw that trailer to Shyne’s documentary, and everybody sitting in it wanted to spit in Shyne’s face. I don’t care what friends I lose tonight, everybody sitting in that doc wanted to spit in your face, Shyne. I wanted to spit in your face.

“Puff had to beg me to play them records. Nobody was rocking with you. Sounding like Biggie, just die. You thought you were gonna step out here in these streets, and nobody was gonna check you. I’m gonna check you, man.”
