Ezequiel Altamira , a 16-year-old teenager, was murdered last Friday, October 25, in Ituzaingó, Argentina, during a violent robbery attempt.
What was supposed to be a fun night for the young man and his friends ended in tragedy after a group of at least 13 minors attacked him as he left a nightclub, with the intention of robbing him of his phone.
According to witnesses and security cameras in the area, Ezequiel and his friends had left the club and requested a taxi through an app. While they were waiting for the vehicle, the group of teenagers approached them aggressively and confronted them.
One of the minors, aged 14, attacked Ezequiel from behind, hitting him on the back of the neck and, once on the ground, kicked him while snatching his cell phone.
Ezequiel’s death was reported the following day
After the attack, his friends sought help from the club’s staff and took him to a nearby house, where he was expected to spend the night. However, on the morning of Saturday, October 26, when they tried to wake him up, they noticed that he was unresponsive.
They immediately called the emergency services, who confirmed his death at the scene.
Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the case, based on videos from security cameras and testimonies from the victim’s friends. The preliminary autopsy indicated that the cause of death was a strong blow to the head, which reinforces the hypothesis that Ezequiel died as a result of the attack he suffered the night before.
On Sunday, October 27, authorities arrested four minors, including the alleged perpetrator of the fatal attack.
Will there be sanctions?
The news sparked a wave of outrage on social media, especially given the fact that those responsible are minors, which could lead to less severe penalties under Argentine law.
The young man’s family is demanding justice and urging that the crime not go unpunished.
“It is unacceptable that a young man should lose his life in this way and that the perpetrators can evade justice because they are minors,” a relative said on social media.
The community of Ituzaingó has united in support of Ezequiel’s family, with vigils and marches in honor of the teenager, calling for justice and greater security to prevent similar situations from happening again.
