A stunning strike from Moises Caicedo earned Chelsea a deserved point as they held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
The Blues started in confident mood and Noni Madueke headed against the post from a corner. They couldn’t, however, fully assert themselves, and Marcus Rashford almost broke the deadlock on the brink of half-time as he clipped the crossbar from close-range.
Pedro Neto arrowed a low drive narrowly wide of the post shortly after the break, but Chelsea fell behind with 20 minutes to go when Robert Sanchez brought down Rasmus Hojlund in the box, and Bruno Fernandes netted from the penalty spot.
Caicedo, however, got the visitors back on terms with a superb 20-yard volley after a corner was cleared to the edge of the penalty area.

Goalkeeper & Defence
Robert Sanchez (5/10):
Had commanded his penalty area well and dealt with a number of crosses excellently until he brought down Hojlund for the penalty.
Malo Gusto (6/10):
Got into some good positions when drifting inside in attack, but couldn’t create much of note. Did OK defensively up against Rashford, but still replaced at half-time by Cucurella.
Wesley Fofana (3/10):
Struggled with Hojlund’s physicality from the off and then got caught under the ball for the penalty incident.
Levi Colwill (6/10):
Commanding presence at the heart of the Blues’ backline. Continues to grow in stature.
Reece James (7/10):
Very solid defensively on both flanks. Maresca’s formation means he is unable to contribute in attack outside of set-pieces, but more minutes as he gets up to full fitness.

Midfield
Romeo Lavia (6/10):
Had some nice moments in possession in midfield and won his share of tackles. Not the finished product, but growing in confidence.
Moises Caicedo (8/10):
Another strong showing from the Ecuadorian was capped by his brilliant, volleyed goal. Spread play well and was tough in the tackle before making a game-saving interception in the final seconds.
Cole Palmer (6/10):
Had some nice touches and dribbles at the heart of the United defence, but was uncharacteristically tentative around the penalty area.

Attack
Noni Madueke (5/10):
Hit the post with an early header but struggled to get the better of Mazraoui down his flank.
Nicolas Jackson (4/10):
Couldn’t really get into the game. Lacked service and picked up a late booking.
Pedro Neto (6/10):
Improved as the game wore on after a quiet start. Went close with a driven effort early in the second half.

Subs & Manager
Marc Cucurella (6/10):
On for Gusto at half-time and offered a threat going forward. Was lacking going the other way, though.
Mykhailo Mudryk (6/10):
Had some nice touches, while his presence in front of Onana might have helped Caicedo’s volley beat the goalkeeper.
Enzo Fernandez (5/10):
Should have done better with an opportunity shortly after replacing Lavia.
Enzo Maresca (6/10):
Will feel his team should have taken control of the game given their superior quality. In the end, a deserved point but plenty to work on.
