Chelsea have reportedly table an offer for Girona manager Michel Sanchez as they look to replace Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea have failed to produce results on the pitch despite spending heavily since the Todd Boehly-led ownership regime took charge of the club ahead of the 2022-23 season. After finishing 12th in the Premier League last season, they roped in former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino as their new manager. The Argentine has, however, so far failed to deliver.
With the Blues once again struggling on the pitch as they are currently 11th in the league, club officials are “not at all satisfied” with Pochettino and have shown interest in hiring Girona manager Michel as his replacement, according to AS. The report further claimed that the English giants have already approached the Madrid-born coach with an offer after sending staff members to meet him in Spain.
48-year-old Michel took charge of Girona in 2021 and has transformed the club into one of the best teams in La Liga. In the current season, Girona are going toe-to-toe with giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. They are one point above their Catalan rivals while they trail league leaders Los Blancos by seven points.
Michel’s current contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season, although, he had earlier told DAZN that he wants to continue at the club for at least one more year. The manager has also been linked with a move to Barcelona and Newcastle United in the past.
