The National Commission for the Prevention of Mass Mobilizations ( Conapremm ) concluded this Sunday the Morazan Holiday 2024 with the registration of one person who died by submersion and none due to traffic accidents nationwide.
At a press conference, authorities from Conapremm, made up of some 23 institutions, identified the only victim as Marco Aurelio Hernández, 36, who drowned in the El Taladro Dam in Comayagua.
They also added that 13 other people were rescued from dangerous situations on different beaches and resorts in the country. 68 road accidents were also reported, with 13 people seriously injured.
In its report, Conapremm reported that during the security campaigns, 1,784 checkpoints were set up and 135 ambulance transfers were carried out; 680 hospital services were provided, and 1,463 emergency medical interventions were performed in first and second level hospitals.
Preventive measures also included the application of 9,004 alcohol tests, with 423 positive cases, and the inspection of 4,950 vehicles. Also, 2,739 preventive inspections and 44 patrols in beach resorts were carried out, to ensure the safety of tourists.
Other incidents during Morazan Holiday
The operation also reported the recovery of 13 minors and the identification of 199 violations related to health regulations on beaches and other tourist sites.
In terms of tourism, the Civil Aeronautics Directorate recorded 7,887 domestic flights , transporting 12,530 passengers. For its part, the Merchant Marine recorded 4,517 tourist movements on passenger ships, with a significant economic spillover in key destinations in the country.
Finally, Copeco authorities highlighted the collaboration between prevention and rescue agencies, as well as the importance of these measures to mitigate the effects of the heavy rains that affected several regions of the country during the holiday season.
