The Central Bank of Honduras’s Semiannual Family Remittance Survey reveals that the majority of Honduran migrants in the United States are engaged in construction and cleaning services.

The most recent Semiannual Survey of Family Remittances , prepared by the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) , reveals that the majority of Honduran migrants in the United States find employment in the construction sector (27.5%) and in cleaning and personal care services (16.4%).

These sectors reflect average monthly incomes of $4,281 (about L107,025) and $2,281 (about L57,025), respectively.

This labour dynamic also extends to other sectors such as hotels, restaurants and commerce, which employ 17.3% of migrants.

Gender gap

A significant aspect that stands out in the survey is the clear gender segmentation in jobs.

Honduran women tend to concentrate in cleaning and personal care services, while men dominate the construction sector.

This difference is also reflected in income, where men earn an average of $4,466 (about L111,650) per month, $1,648 (L41,200) more than women, whose average income is $2,818 (about L70,450).

Job opportunities

The study also highlights that 48.6% of Honduran migrants have permanent employment, with an average monthly income of $3,843 (about L96,075).

Of this group, 78% have regular immigration status, which allows them greater job stability.

On the other hand, 19% are self-employed or own businesses, earning higher incomes, with a monthly average of USD 4,703 (about L117,575).

The type of employment and income of Hondurans abroad reveals that they not only define their quality of life, but also have a direct impact on the remittances sent to their families in Honduras.

Although economic challenges persist, this workforce continues to represent a key pillar for the country’s economy.

This diversity of occupations demonstrates the remarkable adaptability of Honduran migrants, who manage to adjust to the available job opportunities.
