Amorim left one of Ronaldo’s former sides to take charge at another as he arrived at the Premier League side this week as Erik ten Hag’s replacement after a successful spell as Sporting CP coach.

    Amorim, who was once labelled a “poet” by Ronaldo, is tasked with turning the Red Devils into a team capable of challenging for major trophies once again, and the iconic attacker feels he needs all the good fortune he can get.

    Asked about his compatriot and former national team-mate’s move to Old Trafford, Ronaldo said: “I wish him all the luck in the world. Manchester United really need it.”

    Amorim will continue to prepare for his first game as United boss against Ipswich on November 24. Before that, Ronaldo will likely be involved for Portugal as they take on Croatia in their final Nations League group match.
