The Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in the northern city of San Pedro Sula, reports during the beginning of the Morazanic Week holiday the hospitalization of 20 patients affected by dengue, of which 8 are children in the pediatric dengue ward and 12 are adults.
“Although a decrease in the number of cases has been observed,” said Dr. Alexis Meza, who warns that we must not let our guard down, since new arrivals often present critical conditions.
Meza stressed the importance of being alert to the symptoms of dengue, which include high fever, headache, nausea and skin rashes.
He urged people to seek medical attention immediately and “not wait for the disease to worsen, which could complicate treatment,” he explained.
This year, dengue fever in Honduras has left a tragic number of 147 deaths and more than 110,000 reported cases, making the disease an urgent public health problem.
Health authorities continue to call for prevention and symptom monitoring to mitigate the impact of dengue on the population.
