The G7 members stated that Russia’s request for military aid from North Korea highlights Vladimir Putin’s desperation to replenish his army, decimated after more than two years of fighting.

Earlier this week, Kyiv reported that Ukrainian forces had fired on North Korean battalions in Russia’s Kursk region, parts of which have remained under Russian control since August.

“The DPRK’s (North Korea) direct support for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, besides showing Russia’s desperate efforts to compensate its losses, would mark a dangerous expansion of the conflict,” the ministers said in a statement, which was signed as well by South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

The G7 ministers described this Asian deployment as a “dangerous expansion of the conflict.”

The ministers also condemned the growing collaboration between the two countries, especially Moscow’s support for Pyongyang’s ballistic missile program.
