Diddy‘s key to the city of Miami Beach, FL has officially been revoked in the wake of significant backlash due to the various lawsuits and criminal charges against him.
TMZ reported on Saturday (November 2), that Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner and the city commission voted unanimously on the decision at an in-person hearing earlier this week.
Commissioners Joe Magazine, David Suarez, Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, and Alex Fernandez were sponsors.
Diddy was honored with the ceremonial key in 2015.
It was initially reported last month that Miami Beach city officials were in final negotiations to rescind the honor, but their decision was delayed due to Hurricane Milton’s imminent landfall in the Sunshine State.
The hurricane, though, according to an earlier report from TMZ, was just “delaying the inevitable,” and as soon as the storm passed, they were set to take away the key they presented the embattled mogul with during the 2015 REVOLT Music Conference at the Fontainebleau hotel.
In June, city officially revoked a proclamation that declared October 13, 2016 as “Sean Diddy Combs Day” in Miami Beach, which he received at the 2016 REVOLT Music Conference. The resolution stated: “Upon reflection, the Mayor and City Commission have determined that recognizing October 13, 2016 as ’Sean Diddy Combs Day’ is no longer in harmony with the City’s values of safety, community well-being, and respect, and wish to rescind the proclamation.”
A similar occurrence happened in Diddy’s hometown of New York over the summer when his key to the city was rescinded by Mayor Eric Adams.
TMZ obtained two letters on June 15, one of which was sent to Combs Entertainment LLC’s office in New York and the other to his L.A. office. They were addressed to Diddy courtesy of Mayor Adams, who said he was “deeply disturbed” by the footage of the music mogul abusing Cassie at a hotel in 2016.
Adams said in the letter that he stands with survivors of domestic abuse, and outlined that the key is used to recognize outstanding citizens. The Mayor noted that the Bad Boy mogul no longer fits the criteria.
The New York city chief also provided an address to which Diddy could return the key. This move marks the first time a key to the Big Apple has been rescinded.
Diddy reportedly received the letter on June 4 and returned the honor on June 10.
