Donald Trump promised that November 5 would be “liberation day” for an “occupied America” by migrants brought to “infect” the country, at a rally in a city taken over, he says, by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

In the final stretch of the race for the White House , the former Republican president is combining protectionist economic discourse with the demonization of migrants to galvanize his base, made up mostly of working-class whites.

Her rival in the November 5 presidential election , Kamala Harris , on the other hand, is sending a message of unity.

In a more extremist speech than usual, Trump gave free rein to his anti-immigrant rhetoric.

“The United States is known all over the world as ‘occupied America’, they call it ‘occupied’. We are being occupied by a criminal force ,” he said in the town of Aurora, in the state of Colorado (west).

But “I make this promise to you and I make a vow: November 5, 2024 will be Liberation Day in the United States,” he added.

Supporters of the radical right claim that this town is being terrorized by Latin American migrants since the release of a video showing armed Latinos in a building, despite denials by the authorities.

Internal enemy, according to Donald Trump

Trump called the vice president a “criminal” and falsely claimed that Venezuelan gangs in Colorado were given permission to shoot at police.

There is, according to him, an ” internal enemy” : “all the scum we have to deal with who hate our country,” in his words.

Donald Trump has promised to deport members of illegal gangs until there are none left, and he outlined some of the measures he will take if he wins.

“I will end catch and release,” he said, referring to the policy of releasing migrants who cross the border without authorization (pending immigration proceedings) rather than detaining them.

“I will restore the ‘Stay in Mexico’ program ,” which he introduced during his term in office to allow migrants to await the outcome of the immigration process on the other side of the border.

” I will bring back Title 42 ,” he said, referring to a health regulation implemented during the pandemic that allowed virtually all migrants to be blocked.

“They are very, very, very sick with highly contagious diseases and they are brought (…) to infect our country,” he said of the migrants, whom he has already accused of “poisoning” the United States and eating pets.

“I will send a bill to Congress to ban all sanctuary cities ,” which protect migrants from expulsion, “and we will begin the largest deportation operation in the history of the United States,” the tycoon continued.

” We will close the border. We will stop the invasion of illegal immigrants (…) we will defend our territory, we will not be conquered,” he concluded in a bellicose tone.

Powerful forces

Harris campaigned in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she promised to create a “bipartisan council of advisers” and repeated that she would include a Republican in her cabinet.

“In recent years in our country there are some powerful forces that are trying to divide us as Americans; they would encourage us if we pointed fingers at each other,” he said.

“We have more in common than what separates us,” added the vice president who appears on the cover of Vogue magazine.

The two candidates are neck and neck in the polls. The latest Wall Street Journal poll on Friday gives Harris a slight lead in four of the seven key states.

Hillary Clinton, the former head of US diplomacy, warned in an interview broadcast on Friday that Harris must “be prepared for last-minute surprises in October.”

She knows what she is talking about. In 2016, when she was defeated by Trump, she was confronted, shortly before the election, with the release of thousands of emails from her campaign team, obtained according to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) by Russian agents.
