A new migration tragedy occurred on Thursday evening. A baby died on Thursday evening while trying to reach Great Britain.
On the night of October 17-18, a baby died following the sinking of an overloaded boat off the coast of Wissant, in Pas-de-Calais. The boat was carrying migrants trying to reach England illegally. 65 people were rescued, but the lifeless body of a baby was found during the search operations. The Boulogne-sur-Mer public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation.
This year, 52 people have already lost their lives trying to cross the Channel. Authorities estimate that more than 26,000 migrants will have already managed to reach England in 2024 aboard makeshift, often overloaded and extremely dangerous vessels.
