A Mercedes-Benz van driver prevented a robbery by ramming two suspected criminals who tried to rob him in the Carvajal neighborhood, south of Bogotá, Colombia.
The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, September 16, when the suspects attempted to steal a chain from the driver.
According to information from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, the two men attempted to commit the robbery, but the driver reacted quickly, running them over with his vehicle.
The impact left the front of the van severely damaged, and the criminals ended up crashing into a bus from the Integrated Public Transport Service (SITP).
One of the attackers died on the spot, while the other was injured and captured by the authorities. The detainee was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office to face the corresponding charges.
The driver of the van was questioned by the police, who will now have to determine whether his reaction was self-defense or whether he will face any kind of legal liability.
Videos circulating on social media show that after the crash, the criminals were attacked by some members of the community while they were lying on the ground.
The incident is part of a growing trend of “vigilant justice” in the Colombian capital. Just hours earlier, on the evening of September 15, a Constitutional Court bodyguard used his gun to stop another thief who tried to steal his vehicle.
