This Sunday, a father and his son died violently in the village of San Pedrito, municipality of San Rafael, department of Lempira , western Honduras.
The victims were identified as Tomás David Villanueva, 52, and his son Nelson David Villanueva, 24.
According to preliminary reports, the two were riding a motorcycle when they were intercepted by armed men who shot them, killing them.
The relatives later took the bodies to their home, where the authorities carried out the removal of the bodies.
The reason behind the murder of the two men is currently unknown, as is the whereabouts of those responsible for the double murder.
A total of 92 people were murdered in Lempira between January and September 30, 2024, according to statistics from the Ministry of Security .
This statistic places Lempira as the third municipality in the western region with the most violent deaths, surpassed only by Santa Bárbara, with 124 homicides, and Copán, with 121.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Violence Observatory of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (OV-UNAH) indicate that an average of nine people die every day in the country due to violence.
