WHAT HAPPENED?
FIFA have continued their impressive makeover of the FIFA Club World Cup by unveiling an innovative prize for the winners to lift in 2025. The new tournament trophy, which was designed by FIFA and crafted in collaboration with high-end American jewellers Tiffany & Co., boasts a 24-carat gold-plated finish and laser-engraved inscriptions, including a world map and the names of all 211 FIFA member associations.
The trophy will be lifted for the first time next summer when FIFA debut the new, expanded format of the competition across 11 U.S. cities, beginning on Sunday, June 15. A total of 32 clubs – including Manchester City, Real Madrid and Inter Miami – from across FIFA’s six federations will take part, with the winners crowned at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 13. Fans can register for ticket and hospitality information at FIFA.com/tickets now.
As well as the inscriptions, the trophy’s central disc includes images of stadiums and equipment which capture football’s traditions. There are also 13 different languages and Braille engraved on the trophy, in a nod to the inclusive spirit of the global game and the tournament’s accessibility to diverse audiences. The silverware can even be turned from a shield into a spherical structure, adding yet another eye-catching dimension to it.

DID YOU KNOW?
FIFA have revealed a number of inspirations behind the design of the new trophy. These include the Voyager Golden Records carried on NASA’s Voyager deep-space missions in the 1970s, the periodic table, maps of pioneering journeys and astronomy. The trophy features celestial symbols showing the positions of planets at the time FIFA was founded more than 120 years ago, and of the 2025 Club World Cup’s opening match in Miami.
An inspiring message also features on the new design. It reads: “To those who hold this trophy, history belongs to you! You are witness to a moment in time that represents the pinnacle of club football, bestowed upon few but celebrated by many.”
The winners of each FIFA Club World Cup will receive a replica of the trophy featuring special engravings that mark their victory. The replicas are an exact match of the official trophy and come with nameplates featuring club emblems and the dates of their triumph.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The new-look FIFA Club World Cup begins in the summer of 2025 and will take place every four years after that. Previously the tournament took place annually and involved just seven clubs, whereas there will be 32 involved in each competition going forward. They are divided into eight groups of four clubs, with the top two progressing through to the last-16. Each knockout stage is played over one leg and there is no third-place play-off for the losing semi-finalists.
Replacing the annual event will be a new Intercontinental Cup featuring the Champions League winners facing play-off winners in the final. Real Madrid will feature in this year’s final, which takes place in Qatar on December 18.

WHAT’S BEEN SAID?
Speaking about the new trophy, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Innovative, inclusive, groundbreaking and truly global, the new 32-team FIFA Club World Cup deserves a trophy that represents all of this. It is both prestigious and timeless – a golden trophy that is a symbol of the future and inspired by the past.
“The team who lift this trophy will hold the world of club football in their hands. To the players who win it, history belongs to you! Let’s take it to the world and celebrate it as we look forward to the start of a new era for football when the one and only FIFA club world champions lift the FIFA Club World Cup Trophy in New York New Jersey on 13 July 2025.”
The President and Chief Executive Officer of Tiffany & Co., Anthony Ledru, added: “With a legacy dating back 160 years, Tiffany & Co. has crafted some of the most iconic championship trophies in history, setting the standard for craft and design.
