Not much is known about the death of Liam Payne, the former One Direction member who fell to his death in Argentina yesterday. Payne, 31, was in Buenos Aires, having attended a concert of his former bandmate Niall Horan, who performed at the city’s Movistar Arena on 2 October. At the time, Payne was seen dancing and singing along with Horan’s fans at the concert.
Payne joined One Direction, which was created by Simon Cowell, when he was just 16. The other notable member was singer and actor Harry Styles. They went on to sell some 70 million records. Last year, he admitted that he had had dependency problems at the time. However, he recently declared that he had been sober for some time already.
A solo album was in the pipeline, following the 2024 single “Teardrops”.
Payne fell from a third-floor balcony to his death. A police investigation is ongoing.
