Emmanuel Macron and Mark Rutte call on Europe to maintain its military support for Kiev, while Donald Trump’s victory sows doubts about the involvement of the United States in the conflict.
Will American aid to Ukraine be maintained? On Tuesday, before a lunch with NATO Secretary General (Mark Rutte), the French president told the press that “support for the country attacked by Russia” remained “an absolute priority”. He continued: “The recent deployment of North Koreans to the front line is a serious escalation. And we will continue to advocate for NATO and its allies to provide their full support to the Ukrainian army for as long as necessary”.
For Emmanuel Macron, “this is the only way to negotiations. And I want to be clear, when the time comes, nothing should be decided on Ukraine without the Ukrainians, nor on Europe without the Europeans”. While Donald Trump often criticized European leaders for not worrying about defense spending, at the expense of the United States, the French head of state recognized that Europe has “avoided to bear the burden of its own security for too long”, even if “this has never been the case for France”, reports L’Indépendant.
