WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the Daily Mail, United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe gathered key figures at the club, and former player Neville, to discuss the state of play with manager Ten Hag and their £2 billion ($2.6bn) stadium plans. The INEOS owner reportedly held a crunch meeting with co-chairman Joel Glazer and other Red Devils chiefs, with Neville also spotted entering Old Trafford on Monday.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

United’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday meant they have endured their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, with Ten Hag’s side down in 14th with eight points from seven matches. That result may have bought Ten Hag more time at the Red Devils, but the club’s owners will meet on Tuesday in London to discuss whether the former Ajax boss should remain in charge at Old Trafford.

    • Discussions will also continue on life after Old Trafford, with the club seemingly preferring to go down the route of building a new ground in the same area as the current stadium – rather than redeveloping what they have. Initial proposals have mentioned a 100,000-seater ground that would cost around £2bn.

      WHAT NEXT?

Ten Hag’s United side return to Premier League action on October 19 at home to Brentford, following the upcoming international break. It remains to be seen if he will still be in charge by then.
