The extension of the green alert is due to the high degree of soil saturation, damage to crops, isolated areas, river flooding and flooding.

The Secretariat for National Risk and Contingency Management ( Copeco ) decided to extend the  green alert  in 11 departments of the country for a period of  24 hours  starting at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2.

Through a press release, the civil protection institution indicated that the departments under this alert level are:  Valle, Choluteca, El Paraíso, Francisco Morazán, Copán, Olancho; La Paz, Intibucá, Lempira, Ocotepeque and Santa Bárbara.

It is worth mentioning that the green alert means that  the behavior of a phenomenon that could result in a disaster must be monitored  .

In this context, Copeco explained that this decision is due to the high degree of soil saturation, damage to crops, isolated areas, river flooding and flooding.

For its part, the Center for Atmospheric, Oceanic and Seismic Studies ( CENAOS ) of Copeco, warns that rain will continue over the national territory due to the displacement of humidity and wind coming from the Pacific Ocean.

Added to this is the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone in the country, which is why light to moderate rainfall and showers with isolated thunderstorms will occur in most of Honduras.

  • Copeco asks the population to monitor the  information bulletins  issued by this institution and its social networks.
  • Municipal authorities, Codem and Codeles are requested to constantly  observe any threat  that may harm the population, especially in vulnerable sectors.
  • For people living on the  banks of rivers and in areas prone to landslides, collapses, mudslides, subsidence, flooding  and other types of threats, take preventive measures and, if possible, evacuate to safe places.
  • Please  do not cross fords, rivers, ravines and streams that have swollen due to rain.
  • Continue with work to  secure roofs, clean gutters, drains and sewers to prevent sudden urban flooding.
