Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris insisted Friday that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar “can and must be a turning point” in ending Israel ‘s war in Gaza.

“Everyone must seize this opportunity to finally end the war in Gaza, bring the hostages home and end the suffering once and for all,” Harris said during a rally outside Detroit, Michigan.

“I know this year has been very difficult because of the scale of death and destruction in Gaza. And because of the number of civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon, it is devastating,” he added.

The vice president said that Sinwar ‘s death in combat on Thursday, October 17 in Gaza “can and must be a turning point.”

She also promised that if she is elected president she will do “everything” in her power “to achieve security in the region.”

Harris , who said on Thursday that the war must end, took advantage of her visit to Michigan, home to a large Arab community, to reiterate her position.

Polls show a tie between Harris and her rival, Republican Donald Trump , so the support of the Arab community, unhappy with the Joe Biden government’s handling of the Middle East conflict, is key for the Democrats.
