    • WHAT HAPPENED?

Picking a car from sponsor Audi’s range has become an annual tradition at Bayern, with England striker Kane opting for an Audi SQ8 SUV e-tron2 – which is valued at €98,000 (£82,000). Manager Vincent Kompany followed his lead, as did team-mates Eric Dier, Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich. Thomas Muller, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka and Raphael Guerreiro, however, all went for the most expensive car on offer, the RS e-tron GT in Nimbus Grey, which costs €145,000 (£121,000).

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kane and the rest of the Bayern squad enjoyed a day out at the Audi garage, with all present relishing this opportunity. This is not a bad way to keep players loyal and harbour team morale but the main thing that will do that is results on the pitch. Kompany’s side are top of the Bundesliga but they will need to kick on if they want to ensure they don’t have a second-straight trophyless season.

    BAYERN & AUDI’S ‘STRONG’ PARTNERSHIP

Audi CEO and FCB supervisory board member Gernot Döllner said, via the club’s website: “FC Bayern has been a strong partner at our side for more than 22 years. We are united by the high standards we set ourselves and the goal of being among the leaders in our respective fields. On our journey into the electric future, the Bayern players are important ambassadors for getting many people excited about e-mobility with our all-electric models. In terms of sportiness, too, our vehicles are in no way inferior to the professional footballers.”

Michael Diederich, FC Bayern deputy CEO, added: “Whether as a team on the pitch or beyond the pitch in our society, we can only make a difference together. Sustainability is important to us as FC Bayern. And as a club with our millions of fans around the world, we also want to set a positive example in terms of electromobility. In this context, the trusting cooperation with Audi is a valuable component of the FC Bayern sustainability strategy ‘Mitnand’.”
