Three Honduran brothers, originally from the municipality of Erandique , in the department of Lempira , suffered a serious traffic accident in Houston, United States, which left one fatality and the other two in critical health condition.

José Saúl Chávez García, one of the brothers, lost his life in the tragic incident, while his brothers Salvador and Emiliano Chávez García are hospitalized, fighting for their lives.

The accident occurred when the three brothers were on their way to work. Salvador Chavez is in a coma, connected to assisted breathing machines due to his delicate state of health.

His family, devastated by the news, is now calling for help to repatriate the body of José Saúl, who leaves behind a three-year-old son in Honduras.

The brothers’ uncle, who has become the family’s spokesman, asked the Honduran community and the government for support to cover the costs of repatriation and medical care for Salvador and Emiliano.

The family faces not only the pain of losing José Saúl, but also the uncertainty about the health of Salvador and Emiliano, who still remain in a hospital in the United States.

Any help the community can provide would be invaluable to this Honduran family, who are facing an ordeal far from their homeland.

Hondurans who died in the United States

According to data from the Consular and Migration Observatory of Honduras ( Conmigho ), between 2015 and 2023, 2,430 requests for repatriation of bodies of Hondurans who died abroad were registered, which averages approximately 304 requests per year.

Although these figures include deaths in various countries, a significant proportion correspond to deaths that occurred in the United States , given that it is the main destination for the Honduran diaspora.

It is important to note that in the last decade, 463 Hondurans have lost their lives on the migration route to the United States, with an average of 46 deaths per year.
