Yanin Esnelin Galán Cruz is a Honduran student who patented a portable dental chair and received his trademark certificate from the Property Institute and the free Legal Clinic of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) in the capital, Tegucigalpa.

“This is a great help. I didn’t know about this opportunity that they are giving us. I am very happy, it is a base, a pillar for me to take a step forward in my project. I am satisfied and legally protected,” said Galán-Cruz.

The dentistry student explained that at the time he was afraid to present his idea because it could be stolen; however, with the patent he feels safe and protected to be able to market his innovative invention.

What does the invention consist of?

Portable dental chair.

The portable chair includes wheels and other mechanisms that allow it to be folded easily.

The innovative chair features a dental module, instrument tray, lamp and spittoon, all in one device.

It is designed to be used in hard-to-reach areas, allowing dentists to serve the population with the same comforts of a dental clinic.

This achievement benefits both Yanin and his family, who supported him in the process of manufacturing and marketing the chairs.

The patent was managed and obtained through the Free Legal Clinic (CJG) of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), which since 2018 has maintained collaboration with the Property Institute (IP), through the Intellectual Property Directorate.
