A Honduran man was arrested this Friday in the municipality of Talanga, Francisco Morazán , in compliance with an arrest warrant for extradition to the United States, reported the Secretary of Security, Gustavo Sánchez.
The arrested man, Santos Gustavo Erazo Licona , 49 years old, is a resident of the village of El Pedernal , in the municipality of El Porvenir , also located in Francisco Morazán.
According to Sanchez, Erazo had “an outstanding arrest warrant for extradition purposes for the crime of conspiracy to possess and distribute with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of a mixture containing a detectable amount of fentanyl , in violation of Title 21 of the United States Code.”
The detainee will be transferred from Talanga to Tegucigalpa , where in the next few hours he will appear before the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), where an appointed judge will hear his case.
It is not yet known which US court is requesting Erazo Licona’s extradition.
Hondurans extradited for fentanyl trafficking
Since last January, Honduran authorities have arrested eight Hondurans wanted by the United States for allegedly trafficking fentanyl.
Another Honduran accused by the United States of fentanyl trafficking is Javier Marín González , 25, who was handed over on October 23 on three charges of trafficking controlled substances, mainly fentanyl. The case is being heard in the Northern District Court of California.
