Bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and Honduras are experiencing a period of expansion and strengthening.
According to official data, the trade balance between the two countries grew by 25.8% between 2022 and 2023, with exports from Honduras to the Dominican Republic valued at $185 million .
This increase reflects the effort to consolidate economic and diplomatic ties.
Tourism
One of the main challenges facing both nations is the lack of direct flights, which hinders tourism and business.
However, efforts are already underway to establish direct air connectivity, which, according to experts, will increase mutual visits and benefit both the tourism sector and bilateral business.
From 2017 to 2023, trade between the two countries has experienced sustained and gradual growth.
The Dominican ambassador to Honduras, Luis García Mercado, also signed 20 bilateral agreements covering areas such as trade, education, technology and tourism.
Other initiatives include collaboration in artificial intelligence, with the provision of 1,000 scholarships for technological training.
Both countries signed the first Technical and Scientific Cooperation Program for the period 2024-2026, which includes three key projects that will benefit Honduras.
One is the strengthening of development cooperation management, the improvement of capacities in coverage and quality surveys.
It also considers the development of technical skills for the specialized care of family agriculture as a key point.
“We are called to strengthen ties of cooperation, sharing knowledge and experiences in the technical and scientific fields to build a promising future for our peoples,” said the ambassador.
These agreements are expected to continue strengthening cooperation between the two countries, generating tangible benefits in strategic areas and promoting sustainable economic growth for both peoples.
