History of the Flag
It dates back to 1823, when the United Provinces of Central America adopted a common flag with blue and white horizontal stripes.
Following the dissolution of the Central American federation in 1839, Honduras kept the design as the basis for its own flag, incorporating modifications over the years.
The current version, made official in 1949, has three horizontal stripes: two blue ones representing the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and a white one in the center, where there are five blue stars that symbolize the hope of the union of the Central American countries.
