This coffee projection marks a milestone for the country, which is preparing to face global challenges while strengthening its leadership in the international market.
The Honduran coffee sector is preparing to reach a historic goal in 2025: exporting seven million 46 kg bags of coffee .
This figure, approved by the Board of Directors of the Honduran Coffee Institute (Ihcafe) , represents a significant increase compared to exports from the previous harvest and reflects the continued growth of the sector.
Honduras maintains a solid leadership in the international coffee market thanks to the tireless work of its more than 120,000 producers , most of whom are small farmers.
Through sustainable production strategies and constant improvement in grain quality, the country manages to stand out in the most demanding markets, which contributes to the economic stability of thousands of Honduran families.
Commitment
The “Renew without Stopping Producing” strategy is essential for coffee growers to modernize their crops without compromising productivity, a formula that shows positive results in all coffee-growing regions.
For its part, the National Coffee Fund reported that by 2025 it expects to service more than 8,000 kilometers of road network in the 15 coffee-producing departments .
Climate challenges
Despite optimistic projections, the Honduran coffee sector faces major challenges for the future. Climate change remains a constant threat to coffee-growing areas, affecting both production and the quality of the beans.
Unusual temperatures, irregular rainfall and pests are some of the factors that producers must manage to maintain the stability of their crops.
In addition, new international regulations, such as the European Union Non-Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) , impose new challenges for the export of Honduran coffee to key markets.
This legislation requires that agricultural products exported to the European Union do not come from recently deforested areas, forcing the sector to implement more sustainable and transparent practices throughout the production chain.
