Maika Hamano’s opener was cancelled out by Amanda Nilden’s controversial equaliser in the 21st minute. Nilden’s cross into the box caught out Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton as the England international tried to palm the ball to safety but it was adjudged to have gone over the line and the goal stood. The entire squad, including the custodian, vehemently protested but with no VAR in the Women’s Super League, the goal could not be overturned.
