On September 29, two famous Brazilian influencers tragically died while on a boat trip in the waters of Devil’s Throat, Brazil.
The captain of the boat was tasked with taking a small group of six influencers, who were partying on a yacht, back to shore. One of the safety rules was very clear: wear a life jacket. Unfortunately, Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria (27 years old) and Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim (37 years old) circumvented the orders to take a photo. A violent wave then toppled the boat, which was officially only allowed to have five people on board.
“Some people didn’t want to wear them because they were taking selfies. They said the life jackets hindered their tan,” said Marcos Alexandra Alfino, police commissioner of São Vicente.
One of the victims, Beatriz Tavares, was found lifeless off the Brazilian coast. As for Aline Tamara, her body was discovered a week after the accident, washed up on a beach in Itaquitanduva, reports the media Demotivateur.
Vanessa Audrey da Silva, survivor of the tragedy, spoke to local media: “There was a moment in the water when no one could see anything. I fought for my life. The waves were very strong, we almost died. We didn’t know how to swim. I knew I wouldn’t last long. I injured my foot and swallowed a lot of water (…)”.
An investigation has been opened to determine whether these tragic disappearances were the result of negligence or recklessness.
